Dental Bridge

Dental Bridge, as the name suggests, bridges the gap if you have missing teeth. A dental bridge is essentially an array of false teeth that is held securely and fastened on the ends.

Traditionally, false tooth or Pontics were made out of metals like gold and silver but these days, they’re made of porcelain and ceramic as they can handle the crushing, biting and the chewing forces of a tooth with ease, all while looking aesthetically pleasing.

Why do you need one?

Losing teeth is an awkward experience and it can affect us in a myriad of ways. However, a dental bridge addresses exactly those issues, including:

  • A perfect smile
  • Ability to chew in a proper manner
  • Restoring pronunciation
  • Maintenance of the shape of your face
  • Realigning bites to ensure proper distribution of food in the mouth

Varieties in Dental Bridges

Traditional Dental Bridge

A traditional dental bridge uses pontics that are held in place by dental crowns on each end of the bridge. This type of bridge is the most popular one and it can be used when the patient has natural teeth on either side of the gap.

Cantilever Dental Bridge

This type of bridge is similar in nature to the traditional one but in cantilever dental bridge, the pontic is held in place by just one natural tooth, instead of two required in traditional bridge.

Implant-Supported Bridge

This type of bridge differs with others as implant-supported bridges, as the name suggests, required dental implants instead of crowns. Usually, one implant is surgically put into place to compensate for every missing tooth to hold the bridge securely.
